Jasmine Ewing

August 11th, 2008 | Category: board_members

Well it looks like it’s time we introduce the newest member of our crew. Jasmine grew up on the dance floor, starting off in tap and ballet she eventually moved into salsa. Then a few years ago she was reintroduced to swing and taught the swing out. She’s been hooked ever since!

What is BSC?

August 08th, 2008 | Category: sidebar_posts

Boston Swing Central is a dancer-formed, non-profit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to promoting positive and fun swing dancing experiences in Boston.

We have two primary objectives. First, to provide a weekly Friday night dance that caters to the desires of dancers of all levels. This means a dance that is centrally located, on public transportation, and reasonably priced.

Second, to champion the diverse voices within our community by remaining open and neutral with regards to information and promotion of other swing dance events in the greater Boston area and by striving to feature a wide variety of teachers, bands, and DJs.

The Fried Bananas

August 08th, 2008 | Category: bands

The Fried Bananas (www.thefriedbananas.com) were created with the goal of providing music for swing dancers and plays a mix of blues, swing, and gypsy jazz. The majority of the members live in Boston though Josh lives in Albany and Jeramie lives in DC.

Shawn Hershey put the Fried Bananas together in December of 2006 to play at a Lindy Hop house party for his girlfriend’s 30th birthday party. Josh and Jeramie, lindy hopping friends, came from Albany and Washington DC to dance and to play. Our friends Steve and Ben, both Boston locals, also donated their services. Anna Callahan, also a local swing dancer and musician, joined the band to perform at a Blues Cafe dance. Jim Frey plays with the Fried Bananas when Jeramie can’t make it up from DC to join them.

Shawn Hershey

August 08th, 2008 | Category: instructors

Shawn began studying Lindy Hop from Kerrin (now a co-teacher at It’s All Swing) and Elizabeth at the Lindybaby studio in 1999. Having always loved and studied jazz music he was immediately drawn in by the dance. He has studied extensively at camps and workshops across the US with many nationally renowned Lindy Hop instructors.

In addition to being an avid social dancer he has won awards at several national and regional competitions. Shawn began teaching Lindy Hop with Marilee in 2002 in order to help share his love of dance and music. In 2004, he happily joined the It’s All Swing studio and has been teaching there ever since.

Shawn also occasionally teaches and performs with his sister Betina Hershey. Betina and Shawn were brought to Tokyo in 2004, and again in 2005, to teach Lindy Hop workshops. He has also taught workshops at Boston University with Diana Byrne, Kerrin and Betina. He also often teaches with Amanda Gruhl at It’s All Swing and regional workshops.

For additional videos of Betina and Shawn’s performances, go to www.ShawnHershey.com.

For private lessons, feel free to contact him via phone or email.
