The Foxtet is a six piece band led by trombonist Dan Fox and comprised of some of the best local musicians who have decades of combined experience playing for swing dancers. The Foxtet also features the lovely Amy Kucharik on vocals and ukulele. Fox has worked as a sideman at Boston Swing Central with Adrian Cunningham, The Lowdown Stompers, the Easy Winners and with Shawn Hershey. Expect a rock-solid beat and sweet, swinging horns playing tunes from the ’20’s and ’30’s at just the right tempos.

Joining Dan on vocals for this evening is Amy Kucharik, a singer-songwriter based in Somerville, MA known for sweet ukulele sounds and sassy lyrics, delivered with a voice and style that recall early jazz and blues performers. Amy has performed at swing dance venues in Somerville, Cambridge, and the greater Boston area as well as Philadelphia, Baltimore, Dallas and St. Louis.

The Swing Legacy, a six piece “little big band” has been a fixture of the Boston swing dance scene since 1991 and BSC since the beginning, playing with a style informed by the great big bands from the swing era. Their repertoire concentrates on classic big band swing music including many Duke Ellington and Count Basie numbers ideal for Lindy Hop and swing dancing. Much of their great catalog of songs showcases their phenomenal singer, Debby Larkin. It promises to be a night full of killer-diller arrangements that will keep you dancing all night long!

Joe Smith and the Spicy Pickles Jazz Band is a Denver-based vintage jazz band dedicated to revitalizing swing music and dance. This small group style swing band packs a punch of power, personality, and wit into each show, intriguing generations new and old with the beloved charm of big band swing from the late 30’s and early 40’s. The Pickles bring it all – high energy, quality musicianship, and an authentic big band sound that celebrate the unique American spirit of swing. Dan Gabel and The Abletones Dectet is an authentic Big Band, specializing in the music of the 1930s and 40s. Bandleader Dan Gabel is bringing a ten-piece version of his band to BSC this week. Gabel has played with the Glenn Miller Orchestra for over a year on a world-tour, played with the Tommy Dorsey and Hal McIntyre Orchestras, and is considered an expert on the big band era. He is an active trombonist, arranger, bandleader, and teacher in the greater Boston music scene. The band features vocalist Elise Roth, who encapsulates the look and sound of the big band era, dazzling audiences with her vocal precision and pizazz.

Kevin loves swing dancing, swing music, and loves listening to the music at all waking hours of the day. He has DJ’ed at local venues around Boston including MIT Lindy Hop Society and Monday Night Practice. Some of his favorite bands include Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Chick Webb. Kevin’s goal is to keep the energy high and the dancing fun, and he firmly believes in the saying… “It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that swing!”

Ali’s first and foremost goal while DJing is to craft a play list that will keep the floor full and happy. Her musical tastes and collection are rooted in her dad’s extensive jazz and blues collection long before she knew how to swing out. Now she could keep you dancing for days with all the Chick, Big Joe, Bessie, and Louie at her fingertips, but don’t be surprised to hear her go off the beaten path to mix it up a bit every once in a while. Ali’s goal is to take your favorites and mix in fresh tunes that you don’t hear as often, to create a swinging set with flow and a variety of tempos.

Chelsea Reed and the Fairweather Five make their Boston Swing Central debut!

Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five are at home at swing dances. They have played renowned Philadelphia venues like the Kimmel Center and World Cafe Live in addition to touring around the country in a trusty blue van. They love exploring the roots of jazz and finding creative ways to interpret forgotten songs. Drawing upon the influence of artists such as Bessie Smith, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday, Chelsea Reed and the Fair Weather Five bring the intensity and passion of early jazz to every stage they play to put on one heck of a show!

Originally from Maine, Cassidy has been to New York, New Orleans and back and has played for lindy hop dancers in the US and Europe. Cassidy is active as a sideman with Gordon Webster, Luke Winslow King, Dan Levinson, and the Loose Marbles. He loves to play for dancers, especially with his current New Orleans style jazz band, Cassidy and the Orleans Kids!

Andrew Selzer started DJing for weekly dances in the college town of State College, Pennsylvania; but these days he hails from Boston, Massachusetts. With over five years of experience dancing Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, and Balboa all over the globe from Paris, France to New Orleans, Louisiana he brings to the table music true to the swing era that appeals to the international swing dance community.

Based in Baltimore, Maryland, the Butler Parks Hot Serenaders is an early jazz and swing combo in the emergent tradition tradition of jazz music made for dancers, by dancers. Featuring the talents of Robert White (drums), Dan Parshall (saxophone), Jake Robbins-Spevack (guitar), Alex Abdoulaev (piano), Joe Herrera (trumpet), and Lindsay Kelly (vocals), the Butler Parks Hot Serenaders’ repertoire runs the gamut from post-Dixieland standards to arrangements of Artie Shaw’s Gramercy Five swing tunes. Because the Serenaders, particularly Alex and Bobby, are hilariously obsessive about the recordings of Artie Shaw, Count Basie, and Johnny Hodges, expect an engaging night of dancing to a band of virtuoso soloists backed by a rock-solid rhythm section — you know, just like in the olden days!
